DIY Tasks In The Home – Five Must Have Tools

Once you have your own home, there are bound to be times when you need to either put your DIY skills to the test or call for professional help. If you decide on the DIY option, whatever the task is, you’re not going to be able to complete it successfully if you don’t have the right tools available.

Some homeowners are more than willing to take on most DIY jobs around the home and need a wide variety of tools to hand; click here to find out more. For others, basic tasks are demanding enough.

However, even for DIY beginners, some tools are essentials.

A Set of Screwdrivers for Different Tasks

One of the most common tasks in most homes is having to tighten items such as door hinges. It takes just a few seconds to do, but you need to have the right size and type of screwdriver available.

Investing in a set of screwdrivers means you have the tool available to suit the occasion. This can be anything from fixing the doors on a kitchen cabinet to prying the lid from a tin of paint.

A Reliable and Durable Tape Measure

From figuring out the amount of wallpaper you need, to deciding what size of wood pieces you need to fix a fence, a tape measure is useful for many different DIY tasks around the home. Make sure you choose a tape measure with a durable and bright covering.

This will allow you to continue using it for years to come and you can find it when it’s surrounded by materials and other tools.

A Basic Hammer

Most homeowners need a hammer at some point; to hang pictures or put furniture together. Choose a mid-weight claw hammer for ease of use.

The claw feature enables you to remove nails which become bent when you hammered them in. Make sure you choose a hammer with a built to last handle; a fiberglass handle is often a good choice.

A Good Quality Flashlight

A flashlight is a must in any home; even if it’s only for getting the dog in from the garden when it’s dark. Make sure you keep the flashlight somewhere simple to find if the lights go out in your home.

It’s often a good idea to have one upstairs and one downstairs, just in case. As well as the flashlight, make sure you have spare batteries in your home and replace them with another set as soon as you put them into the flashlight.

A Utility Knife for a Multitude of Tasks

A utility knife is one of those tools you’ll end up using for an array of different tasks, from shaving wood to opening packages. It’s worth investing in a good quality knife with a comfortable handle and easy to replace blades.

These features make the tool safer to use.

Once you have the collection of tools you need, it’s a good idea to purchase a toolbox to keep them in. Good quality storage helps to protect your tools which should mean they keep working effectively for several years.
