Baking Is For The Whole Family (Not Just The Girls!)

Could the kitchen be another place for family bonding? Baking gives us the opportunity to work together. When families spend quality time working together toward a specific result, for example, baking cookies the result is so much sweeter than the cookie’s taste. See what Amy Rice has to say about baking.

Tony Wilde from Planen.Co.Uk loves to bake, here he gives us lots of ideas for delicious treats for the whole family and work mates too!

Chefs on TV

When you think about it many of the chefs on TV are men.lead For instance, there’s Jamie Oliver, Heston Blumenthal, Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein. Being a great chef means you also have to know your way around an oven and develop your baking skills.

The Great British Bake Off

Today, people love to bring home baked goods into the office or workplace to share with their friends and co-workers. Bake-offs are very popular and are held in many cities. Does all this talk make you want to start baking again? Good!

The best place to get started is right in your own kitchen. As with any type of cooking, preparing ahead of time is key. So start by checking the recipe and then gathering together all the things you will need. Once you have gathered all of the ingredients, make sure they are arranged so you can locate them easily once you start preparation.

What Will You Start Baking?

If you have not done much baking in a while, why not start with something simple? How about a plate full of hot English scones? Scones are simple to prepare and are wonderful to eat warm out of the oven with a bit of strawberry jam and a spoon full of thick cream. Delicious!

Perhaps you are feeling a bit more adventurous. Rather than scones or cookies, you would like a real challenge.

How about baking your very own cake? Perhaps you would like a lemon cake with a homemade lemon drizzle on top? Or maybe a German chocolate cake? Or a homemade carrot cake with butter cream frosting! Once you find the recipes, make sure you follow them to the “T.”

It may take a little time, but eventually your baking skills will develop. Once they do, you may decide to go for even bigger challenges.

How about some homemade jelly doughnuts or jelly rolls? Perhaps you’d like to make some scrumptious cream puffs or a pineapple upside down cake? When you conquer these more challenging treats you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment, not to mention receiving praise from your family and friends.

Baking does not have to be limited to sweet treats. There are many other dishes requiring baker skills. For instance, there are a large variety of meat pies you might try. How about a delicious quiche? Or even some good old fashioned ham biscuits? As long as you have a good recipe and the right ingredients, the sky is the limit!

Baking is something that can be done with a mate or other family members. It’s a great feeling to wipe the flour from your brow as you look down at the pastry you have prepared together.

It’s great fun teaching your children the joys of working in the kitchen. Why not have them make a list of the treats they would like to learn to bake? This would be a great time to teach them about ingredients and nutrition. They will love the attention and the fact that you are giving them responsibility. Even little ones can be included by drawing pictures of the baked goods after they come out of the oven.

Why not sit down to a formal family dinner to share the bounty of your joint efforts? Baking is a great way for everyone in the family to get together and truly relish the fruits of their labor, both tasty dishes and sweet desserts!
