Fall Family Fun Activities For The Whole Family

Making Memories Under The Autumn Leaves

Fall is approaching, and Halloween is lurking nearby. With the weather cooling, it’s too easy to stay inside the warm house, watching movies and drinking cocoa with your family.

As comfy as that sounds, it’s important to get out of the house and keep moving every so often. So, try some fun family bonding activities instead of staying indoors.

  1. Corn Maze

Visit a corn maze. MazePlay has a great corn maze finder that can help you find one near you.

Many of their corn mazes have fun challenges and scavenger hunts to keep your family active and working together.

  1. Pumpkin Patch

Going to a pumpkin patch is a must in the fall if you have kids. There are always tons of Fall family fun activities to enjoy together—potato sack races, straw mazes, pig races, potato gun launches, and so much more!

At the end of your fun time, everyone can pick a pumpkin to take home, another great family bonding activity—carving pumpkins!

  1. Pumpkin Carving Contest

You’ve gone to the pumpkin patch, and everyone has a pumpkin. Now, it’s time to carve it. Instead of simply scooping out the goop and letting everyone do their own thing, have a pumpkin carving contest.

See how creative each member of your family can be. For the “trophy,” spray paint a small gourd gold.

  1. Apple Picking

Take your family to an apple orchard sometime. It’s much more fun to pick your apples straight from the tree than inside the grocery.

You can make homemade applesauce or apple pies with your family when you’re done. You could even try making fresh apple cider.

  1. Plan and Make Halloween Costumes

Let each member of your family search through Pinterest or a catalog and decide what they want to be for Halloween. Then, go shopping for each piece they need to make their costume.

This could also be a great way to teach children how to shop on a budget. Give them a budget for their costume and let them plan out everything they will need to make it, and then have them buy everything they need within that budget. Then go home and put it all together!

  1. Run a Race

There are always 5k races around the holidays, whether it’s a costume run for Halloween or a turkey trot for Thanksgiving. Even if your family isn’t keen on running, it could be a fun family fitness activity that creates lasting memories.

  1. Acts of Service

Find a service that your family can do in the community. You could shop for supplies to donate to a homeless shelter, work at a soup kitchen, or find a community giving tree your kids can help buy presents for.

Maybe you have a neighbor who needs some cheering up; bake some goodies with your family and take them over. The possibilities for this one are endless.

  1. Family Christmas Card

Send out a family Christmas card this year. Now is a great time to plan a photo shoot and take advantage of the falling leaves and beautiful colors that Fall offers.

Do something unique with your photo shoot, like dressing up in costumes or having fun poses. Make it a fun time for your family.

  1. Decorate the House

Whether you want to decorate for Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, please do it. Let your family get involved and work together to create something you’ll all be proud of.

You can make decorations together to hang up around the house and to put up outside.

  1. Go Backyard Camping

Yes, it’s cold outside, but the memories will be worth it, even if it’s just for a few hours one evening. Set up a tent in the backyard, roast marshmallows and hot dogs over a fire pit (or the grill), watch the stars, and tell campfire stories.

Curl together in sweatshirts and blankets, relax knowing you’re in the comfort of your backyard, and sleep in your warm bed at night’s end. Don’t miss out on the many opportunities Fall brings for families to have fun, bond, and grow together.

Make your own fall family fun list with your kids, and have a great time!
