Tips For Going Out With Your New Baby

Having a new baby doesn’t mean you have to be stuck in the house. It can be refreshing to get out and about with your little one. Just keep these tips for going out with your new baby in mind to make sure the trip creates as little stress as possible.

Make Sure Your Baby is Comfortable

Babies who are uncomfortable are going to have a hard time on an outing. You need to ensure you have what you need to keep your little one happy.

Babies like to be held, but when you’re out and about running errands it’s not always the most convenient. So, look at the different types of strollers with car seats, wraps, and baby carriers to decide which one works the best for you.

Your baby will likely prefer a certain type of travel carrier, so don’t leave the house without the wrap or seat he likes. It’s also not a bad idea to bring a backup in case your baby who usually loves the stroller gets clingy and only wants to be in the wrap.

Make Sure Your Baby is Fed

Make sure your little one has a full stomach before you leave the house. A hungry baby is going to be extra cranky before you even arrive at your destination.

It’s also a good idea to bring food for your baby when you’re out. For an infant, this will mean breast milk or formula. Make sure you have a way to keep warm milk at the right temperature while you’re out.

Also, look for places designated for feeding babies if your little one is too distracted out in the open. You can feed a baby anywhere, but some little ones like it better if there isn’t a crowd around making noise while they eat.

Bring Extra… Everything

There’s a reason diaper bags are so huge. You need to bring an extra set of everything when you leave the house with a baby. Pack an extra outfit, tons of diapers, and enough wipes to cover the most horrific diaper explosion.

As mentioned before, always have food with you, and don’t forget to pack extra layers if the weather is cold and your baby will need to be bundled when getting out of the car. It’s a lot to carry with you, but it pays off if your baby is happy and has the essentials.

Be Aware of Nap Time

Some babies will sleep absolutely anywhere, and others won’t. If your child likes to be in his crib when nap time rolls around, don’t plan an outing that is going to occur during that time.

Your child will likely miss his nap and then be cranky for the rest of the day. A tired baby also doesn’t equal a baby who will sleep well at night.

When an infant misses a nap, it often makes them so tired and has problems sleeping when the sun goes down. Plan trips around naps as much as possible.

Choose Locations Wisely

A new baby doesn’t have to be hidden from the world. However, it is a good idea to consider where you take your infant since she has practically no immune system in those early days.

Avoid places with large crowds. Be prepared to ask other people not to touch your little one if they are getting to close. Open areas where no one is coughing or sneezing directly on your child are ideal, especially during flu and RSV season.

It’s fun to take your baby out into the world. Just make sure you are prepared before leaving the house so your trip will go well. Here’s another article you might like: Tips for Traveling With a Baby
