Tips For Staying Physically Active This Winter

“ Daddy, wake up, look! It snowed outside!”

Your son tugs at your blanket, yanking it excitedly. You groan and turn over. “Daddy, Daddy, LOOK! Look out the window! It snowed tons, look!”

You slowly sit up and pull aside the curtain on the wall on the right side of your bed. From the look, there are at least two feet of snow on the ground.

Snow shoveling time! Yes, that’s what winter exercise is all about. Shoveling snow, and sledding. In addition to ice skating, of course.

So, there are activities which are specifically geared for the winter season that promote physical fitness and keep your body active, even in the cold.

Those nurses in their Grey’s Anatomy Uniforms and anyone else who has a job that entails running around all day may be getting their exercise year-round, no matter the weather outside, but most people aren’t.

Many people work at a desk, hunched in front of a computer. These people, as well as some others in the workforce, are not getting enough exercise in the winter.

Below, I’ll share some activities that are non-dependent on weather, and can be done through any season, no matter the temp. These ideas will help you stay physically fit even during the coldest days of winter.

  1. Shovel Snow

Snow shoveling is a great way to exercise your arm and leg muscles. It’s a serious workout, and it won’t cost you a penny. Shoveling is a practical way to use your quads, abs, low back, and shoulders. Incorporate it into your morning exercise routine whenever possible.

  1. Watch Videos

Not any videos, though; I’m talking specifically about exercise videos. These videos allow you to work out indoors, without the cost of gym fees! They are a fantastic way of exercising since they can be done year round.

  1. Go to the Gym

By purchasing a membership at a gym, you’ll be able to get full access to ellipticals, treadmills, and other exercise equipment. Most gyms have classes, with instructors, and excellent instructors push you to do your best.

That’s why many people have an easier time reaching their fitness goals once they’ve started going to the gym.

  1. Hit the Mall

Yes, shopping can be a way to get exercise. The mall is a great place to go walking.

You can spend hours walking from one store to the next while enjoying yourself as you exercise. Go with a partner or loved one, and spend the day together.

You’ll get your exercise, and you’ll have a great time. There are other activities to do in the winter as well, like snowshoeing, ice skating, and skiing.

You can do these activities by yourself, or you can turn it into a family trip! Now that you’re aware of the many options for exercising in cold weather, you can finally begin to exercise every day, all year round.

Are you someone who likes to hit the slopes every winter? As soon as fresh snow hits, you’re up in the mountains with your skis or snowboard catching those sweet drifts.

Then maybe you’re one of the many who have also experienced one of the standard injuries associated with winter sports. Keep yourself safe this winter.
