How to Prepare a Nutritious Family Meal
Although, I wasn’t a dad yet as a bachelor I struggled in the kitchen – it took me an hour to cook Minute Rice. 😛 However, I eventually learned to make meals using the four food groups: fast, instant, frozen and to go. 😀 Kidding aside, writer Lizzie Weakley provides some excellent advice if you’re single dad facing the daily challenges to prepare a nutritious family meal.
Single Dads: How to Prepare a Nutritious Family Meal
As a parent, you probably know how important it is to prepare healthy meals for your children. However, if you’re doing it all on your own, you could be a bit overwhelmed and intimidated by the daily responsibility.
Here are a few tips that can help you prepare nutritious family meals for yourself and your kiddos. In a short time, you’re sure to find it’s easier than you thought it would be.
Confidently, you can feel assured knowing your kids are eating nutritiously.
Prep Ahead of Time When Possible
As a busy single parent, you might not have a whole lot of time to spare. This may mean you need to be able to get dinner on the table as quickly as possible.
Preparing some foods ahead, such as chopping up veggies and keeping them in the refrigerator or pre-cooking chicken breasts. Keeping them in the freezer can help you get dinner on the table with a lot less stress each evening.
Know What Everyone Likes
The reality is, there are foods your kids will like better than others. The same goes for you as well.
You should know what everyone likes to eat. With that said, you can take that information and incorporate it into a more nutritious meal.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different foods, spices, herbs and blends too. If you can make something everyone likes and it is healthy and nutritious, you have managed to create a win, win scenario as a dad.
Look for Healthy Convenience Products
You might assume in order to prepare healthy and nutritious meals, you will need to make everything from scratch. However, even though it’s true you may want to avoid a lot of processed foods, you don’t have to avoid all convenience foods.
Instead, look for convenience products from companies like Monin. Then, you can look for products that don’t include a lot of sugar, and are made out of healthy, natural ingredients.
This can make meal preparation a whole lot easier for you.
Learn How to Disguise Certain Foods
As a parent who is feeding picky kids, you might find there are times when you will have to disguise certain foods. For example, you can blend fresh vegetables like carrots, onions and peppers into spaghetti sauce, and your kids will be getting their nutrients without even realizing it.
If you have a hard time getting your kids to eat veggies, you can also try things like covering them in cheese or a healthy dressing or chopping them up really small into your prepared dishes. Once you get the hang of tricks like this, you might find that serving veggies to your kids is a whole lot easier than you thought it would be.
As you can see, it is possible to get nutritious meals on the table for your kids. If you follow these tips, you can get used to preparing meals at home.
Then, you’ll know your kids are eating good-for-them foods. You won’t have to be as stressed out about food preparation, either.
