Try this Fall Family Fun List with Your Family

Fall is in full swing, with the leaves falling and Halloween lurking nearby. With the weather cooling, it’s too easy to just stay inside the warm house watching movies and drinking cocoa with your family.

As comfy as that sounds, it’s important to get out of the house and keep moving every so often. So, instead of staying indoors, try some of these fun family bonding activities.

1. Corn Maze

2. Pumpkin Patch

Everyone can pick a pumpkin at the end of your fun time to take home for another great family bonding activity – carving pumpkins!

3. Pumpkin Carving Contest

You’ve gone to the pumpkin patch and everyone has a pumpkin, now it’s time to carve it. Instead of simply scooping out the goop and letting everyone do their own thing, have a pumpkin carving contest.

See how creative each member of your family can get. Spray paint a small gourd gold for the “trophy.”

4. Apple Picking

Take your family to an apple orchard sometime. It’s so much more fun to pick your apples straight from the tree than inside of the grocery.

When you’re done, you can go home and make some homemade applesauce or apple pies with your family. You could even try making your own fresh apple cider.

5. Plan and Make Halloween Costumes

Let each member of your family search through Pinterest or a catalog and decide what they want to be for Halloween. Then go out and go shopping for each of the pieces they’ll need to make their own costume.

This could be a great way to teach children how to shop on a budget too. Give them a budget for their costume and let them plan out everything they will need to make it, and then have them buy everything they need within that budget. Then go home and put it all together!

6. Run a Race

There are always 5k races going on around the holidays, whether it’s a costume run for Halloween or a turkey trot for Thanksgiving. Even if you’re family isn’t keen on running, it could be a fun family fitness activity that creates lasting memories.

7. Acts of Service

Find a service that your family can do in the community. You could go shopping for supplies to donate to a homeless shelter, work at a soup kitchen, or find a community giving tree your kids can help buy presents for.

Maybe you have a neighbor who needs some cheering up; bake some goodies with your family and take them over. The possibilities for this one are endless.

8. Family Christmas Card

Send out a family Christmas card this year. Now is a great time to plan a photoshot and take advantage of the falling leaves and beautiful colors Fall offers.

Do something unique with your photo shoot like dressing up in costumes or having fun poses. Make it a fun time for your family.

9. Decorate the House

Whether you want to decorate for Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, do it. Let your family get involved and work together to create something you’ll all be proud of.

You can make decorations together to hang up around the house and to put up outside.

10. Go Backyard Camping

Yes, it’s cold outside, but even if it’s just for a few hours one evening, the memories will be worth it. Set up a tent in the backyard, roast marshmallows and hot dogs over a fire pit (or the grill), watch the stars and tell campfire stories.

Curl up together in sweatshirts and blankets, and relax knowing you’re in the comfort of your own backyard and you get to sleep in your warm bed at the end of the night. Don’t miss out on the many opportunities Fall brings for families to have fun, bond and grow together.
