Seven Father And Kid Activities For Your Next Day Off

Children grow up right before our eyes. Any pushing back of scheduled activities to do with kids can be a mistake you may regret later. Our days are busy.

In the blink of an eye, we can realize we inadvertently missed out on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend time with them when they were young. Here are seven father and child activities you should consider for your next day off with the kids.

1. Hunting

Who doesn’t enjoy a day in the great outdoors? Taking your child hunting not only teaches them about the nature of life, but it also helps them understand the importance of proper safety around firearms or other weapons.

Just make sure you first obtain the proper permits and research what’s in season before you set off. You can also check out www.core4element.com with them ahead of time to choose hunting jackets and other needed clothing. Kids of all ages can enjoy some aspect of hunting.

2. Treasure Hunt

Before the kids get home from school, hide treasures in the backyard and give them a list when they come home of what they can find.

This can provide hours of entertainment. You can have them come to you for clues or join them in the hunt.

3. Mini Garden

What a better way to teach your kids responsibility than to put them in charge of a living organism? Taking an afternoon to plant a mini garden in the backyard can accomplish this.

Talk to your kids ahead of time to see what foods he would like to grow and eat. This will help your kids be more invested in the project and excited about working with you in the garden each day.

4. Movie Marathon

Just because it’s raining on your day off doesn’t mean you can’t spend valuable time with the kids. Go to the video store together and let everyone pick out their favorite movie.

You can also make some popcorn and other snacks together ahead of time to enjoy while you are watching the movie.

5. Rent a Motel Room

It’s always fun to get out of the house. On a weekend, rent a motel room. Here, you and your kids can take a mini vacation, even if you don’t leave your hometown.

Best of all, you’ll be in close quarters which encourages meaningful conversation. If you don’t have a pool at home, find a hotel with a pool to allow your kids to do something they normally aren’t able to, like pool games, swimming races and more.

6. Blast From the Past

Technology has changed the world in which we live. Spend an afternoon with your child showing them relics from your past. From high school year books to reruns of the Roadrunner, you may be surprised at the level of interest they’ll show.

Tell them about the movies you liked and the candy you ate. It will allow them to relate to you on a different level and encourage conversation.

7. Donate Time

Take an afternoon to encourage charity. Donate time at the local animal shelter or collect old clothes for donation. This will instill valuable ethics they will not likely forget.

Find something they are passionate about, and take the time to teach them how they can make a difference. Participating in service to others less fortunate is a great way to spend time together and teach them meaningful lessons.

Before you know it, your small children will be busy adults. Now is the time to enjoy their youth and innocence. There are numerous activities over which you can bond.
