Defining Your Relationship with a Ring
Three rings make up marriage: the engagement ring, the wedding ring and the suffering. 🙂 When the Pretty Lady and I began talking about marriage, she surprised me by saying she didn’t want an engagement ring.Â
A practical and nontraditional woman she mentioned how rings would often get caught on her clothing and stockings. Also, she is not really into jewelry. Instead of a ring we shopped for a diamond stud she wears on her right ear.Â
Writer Will Powell shares what’s an appropriate ring to buy and where to get help in buying one.
If you are ready to make a commitment to the special woman in your life, it is important to select an appropriate ring. After all, every woman has different tastes, so you need to decide whether you want to give her an engagement ring or a promise ring.
Either way, by visiting an online jeweler you should be able to get a discount on the ring type of your choice. Keep in mind your girlfriend is going to wear the ring every day, so it needs to symbolize your love, be attractive and wearable.
Choose between Promise and Engagement
Even if you are ready to let your girlfriend know you want to be in her life forever, you might not be in a place financially or emotionally to go all the way yet by giving her an engagement ring.
Instead, you can present her with a promise ring that symbolizes your love and commitment to her. Promise rings come in different styles, and many of them will include at least one diamond.
However, they are usually thinner and less flashy than an engagement ring. They are also much more affordable.
On average, promise rings cost less than $300. This makes them a very viable option for declaring your intentions before you are able to invest in an engagement ring.
Decide What Type of Ring to Buy
Whether you are shopping for a promise ring or an engagement ring, it is important to understand what your girlfriend likes. After all, if she has simple tastes, you will not want to give her an ostentatious ring everyone can see from across the room.
On the other hand, if the size of the diamond is important to her, it’s probably not a good idea to get her a ring that only has one tiny diamond on it.
Once you have determined her personal tastes, you should look for a ring that has good clarity and is appropriately sized for her finger. Keep in mind petite rings look best on small hands.
Ask the Right People for Help
Although you probably do not want your girlfriend to know you are planning to buy a ring, it is a good idea to involve one of her closest friends or family members.
The reality is they will most likely have a better idea than you do about the type of jewelry that your girlfriend likes. Asking them for help can help you avoid making a mistake.
Promise rings are a nice step in between simply being in a relationship and being engaged. If you are not quite ready to buy an engagement ring but you want your girlfriend to know you are serious, it is a good idea to begin looking at promise rings today.
After all, once you put a ring on her finger, she will feel more confident you intend to stay with her forever.
