Stepfathers Keep Getting Up

Floyd Patterson
Floyd Patterson the Gentleman of Boxing

At the ripe old age of 21, Floyd Patterson, nicknamed the Gentleman of Boxing, was the youngest man to ever win the undisputed American Heavyweight Boxing Championship. Patterson during an interview with boxing historian, Bert Sugar, was reminded by Mr. Sugar he was knocked down more than any other boxer in history.  The great boxer humbly replied, “Yes, but I got up more times than anyone.”

He didn’t win the championship by not falling down; he won the championship by getting up.

As long as we’re alive, we can expect life circumstances (work, spouse, stepchildren, finances, etc.) to knock us down. However, stepfathers keep getting up just like anyone else.

Getting knocked down is to be expected and embraced as long as we learn from the experience and most importantly, keep getting up. “Success has been and will continue to be defined as getting up one more time than getting knocked down” Watch the video and get inspired.

P.S. Floyd Patterson adopted 13-year-old boxer, Tracy Harris. Tracy Harris Patterson, won the WBC super bantamweight championship in 1992, under his father’s coaching.
