Great Stepfathers Face The Giants

The movie Facing the Giants is an inspirational movie about a high school football coach, Coach Taylor, who faced many challenges (aka giants) on the football field and in his life that were seemingly impossible. Through a process, Coach Taylor eventually learns to trust God to do the impossible. He learns to face the giants in his life. Through his inspired leadership, Coach Taylor gets his team to face their giants of fear and failure with dramatic results.

During one scene, Coach Taylor challenges Brock, the team’s captain,

“Your attitude is like the aroma of your heart. If your attitude stinks, it means your heart is not right. Seriously, how is YOUR attitude? How’s your attitude?”

The nearly 70% divorce rate for blended families is ample evidence there are plenty of men and women with less than positive attitudes needed to satisfactorily resolve and persevere through the unique challenges faced by blended families.

While fear is normal, these feelings shouldn’t be allowed to control our thoughts, actions, and decisions. Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen describe fear as

Fantasized Experiences Appearing Real.

Fear is nothing more than imagination. In most cases, reality will be totally different than what’s imagined. In the movie, Brock couldn’t believe his team could win, which practically guaranteed the team would lose before they even got on the football field.

The answer is always to believe and expect the best to happen. To help you expect the best, we must perform our best in every area of our lives.

Facing The Giants will teach you how to overcome significant obstacles we all face at one time or another in our lives. The movie celebrates the power of the human spirit to rise above what we think is possible.

I hope you find the following excerpt from the movie inspirational. Remember to give it your best your very best. Keep drivin’. Give it everything you got. It’s all about the heart. If you walk around defeated, your family will also.
